Therapeutic Writing

Offered every Tuesday from 10-11am, this introduction to therapeutic writing explores the connection between writing and personal wellness through a series of guided writing exercises and explorations. Using approaches from the leading studies in therapeutic writing, a burgeoning field in the psychological, medical and healing arts communities, the class is structured to create a private and reflective space for individuals to reconnect with their personal writing, and the issues that arise through this engagement with the writing process. In focusing on process rather than product, students will encounter a range of writing experiences such as free-writing exercises, visual journaling, prompted theme-based writing activities, visual exercises such as family trees and body charts, personal biographies, dialoguing, and more. The course will be tailored to the issues and cases of the individual writer, with the goal of nurturing personal reflection, connection and holistic healing through therapeutic writing techniques and processes.
